Today, the entire world is closely following events in the Strait of Hormuz. To the average person, it appears as a geopolitical conflict over oil and borders. However, a Jewish perspective on history allows us to see a much deeper meaning in these events. Ancient prophecies and the writings of our sages, including the kabbalist Rabbi Shmuel Laniado, indicated that at the „end of days,“ this region will become the scene of momentous events.
The name „Hormuz“ reminds us of Talmudic stories related to Persian rule. They mention Ifrah Hormiz, the mother of the Persian king Shapur, who showed deep respect for Jewish sages and strove to come closer to the truth (according to Rashi in tractate Niddah 20b, she even considered converting to Judaism). This underscores the spiritual connection between the events in Iran and the fate of the Jewish people.
The ideological standoff in the Strait of Hormuz has deep spiritual roots. Maimonides explains that the spread of Islam throughout the world was part of the Creator’s plan to prepare humanity for faith in the One God. While many still remain in error and attempt to oppose the Jewish people, this clash of concepts with the truth of the Torah only confirms that the old world order is crumbling.
The sages explain that the global upheavals surrounding Iran and its neighbors are not random. They are part of a process preparing humanity to recognize the authority of the Almighty. According to Jewish tradition, when world powers enter into conflict in this region, it serves as a signal to Israel: the time of Redemption has come.
We live in an era when the hidden is revealed. Our task today is not to succumb to fear in the face of the news, but to strengthen our faith and recognize that the governance of the world rests in the hands of the Creator. Everything that is happening leads to one goal: the advent of Redemption, when evil will disappear and the world will be filled with the knowledge of the Almighty. We must be ready to greet Moshiach at any moment, for all signs indicate that this time is already near.
