In recent days, fresh details have emerged about the events that preceded Israel’s sudden attack on Iran. The newly released information not only sheds light on the course of the operation, but, according to several commentators, also testifies to astonishing miracles that enabled the plan to unfold flawlessly.
It has become clear that, within the framework of the operation, Israel sought to deliver a pinpoint blow against twenty key figures. These included ten high-ranking members of Iran’s military-political leadership and ten leading specialists from the nuclear programme, who, according to intelligence, had recently been working intensively, especially in the past few weeks, on assembling a nuclear bomb.
To accomplish this task, Israeli Air Force pilots underwent intensive training for several months, while the intelligence services conducted extensive information-gathering. All of this was done so that, at the „moment of truth“, they could deliver a simultaneous, coordinated and devastating strike.
Yet, up to the last moment, uncertainty remained. Would the timing truly be right? Would it be possible to eliminate all the designated targets at once?
If anyone, especially among the nuclear specialists, had survived, mounting a second attempt would have been far more difficult. In the end, this could have allowed Iran to resume progress towards building a bomb.
Any surviving military commanders could have proceeded with Iran’s planned retaliation. This involved the simultaneous launch of around a thousand rockets, 600 drones and 150 cruise missiles. That would total 1,750 weapons, five times the scale of the April attack on Israel, of which 99 percent was intercepted.
No one could foresee whether the operation would succeed to the extent of paralysing Iran and preventing it from launching an immediate response.
On the eve of the operation, serious concerns arose in Israel. As tensions escalated, the United States urgently evacuated its embassy in Iraq, along with diplomatic staff in Bahrain and Kuwait. British intelligence issued a warning about possible escalation in the Persian Gulf.
In Jerusalem, there were fears that Iran would interpret these developments as signs of an impending strike. That could have cost Israel the element of surprise. Senior commanders and scientists might have changed locations, taken extra precautions and spent the night in shelters. This would have jeopardised the success of the entire operation.
According to the IDF’s operational plan, the strike on the Natanz facility had to occur when the centrifuges were running at full speed, spinning tens of thousands of times per minute. Only then would a direct hit make restoration of the equipment impossible.
For this reason, everything had to happen exactly at 3:00 a.m. At that hour, all the centrifuges would be active, all ten scientists would be in their beds, and the ten commanders would be sleeping in their homes rather than in bunkers.
No one knew whether reality would align with the calculations. The main concern was that the Iranians might suspect a looming attack, shut down the facilities, hide their leaders, and the operation would fail.
Because of this, sirens sounded throughout Israel at 3:00 a.m. on Friday. The IDF could not predict whether the strike would paralyse Iran or only partially succeed and provoke a large-scale counter-attack. The government decided that the population needed to be prepared for anything, including a possible volley of 1,500 Iranian rockets and loitering munitions.
Yet, in an extraordinary turn of events, reality exceeded even the boldest expectations.
We believe that we witnessed the remarkable help of the Almighty. All ten nuclear scientists were in their bedrooms. All ten senior officers were exactly where our intelligence had predicted. All centrifuges were operational and running at full capacity.
As a result, the most ideal and flawless scenario came to pass, just as the Israeli government and IDF command had hoped.
Every designated target was eliminated. The Iranian regime was caught off guard and thrown into a state of shock. The plan for an immediate retaliatory strike was thwarted. Thousands of centrifuges at Natanz were destroyed completely and cannot be repaired.
